    What is Syphilis?


    Syphilis is a remarkably dangerous, serious and contagious disease, reffered to as Firanga Roga in Ayurveda and may occur in both males and females. It's far a sexually transmitted disease/venerial disorder resulting from the gram-negative corkscrew shaped spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum. 

    As per medical reports, more than 60 - 65 million people get badly infected with syphilis every year.

    Causes of Syphilis


    Syphilis is resulting from a spirochete called Treponema pallidum. It may spread via oral or anal intercourse, prolonged kissing and intimate physical contact and  usually spreads via sores.

    Decreased immunity power.

    Contaminated  blood transfusion - Infected blood transfusion may additionally produce syphilitic infection in some of the cases.

    Sexual intercourse with the patient suffering from Syphilic infections.

    Mother to Child  -  Women that are pregnant, suffering from

     syphilis may also transfer the infections directly to their baby 

    and Syphilis transmitted in this way is called congenital syphilis.



    Signs and symptoms of Syphilis




    Headache / Body ache - painful muscles and pain in joints.

    Malaise.

    Sore throat, Ulcer in oral cavity, vagina, and penis.

    Hair loss.

    Weight reduction.

    Loss of appetite.

    Mild fever and / or Chilliness.

    Inflammation and Enlargement of lymph nodes - Enlarged tonsils ,Bubo.

    Anaemia.

    Skin rashes / Ulcer or sore - Painful boils on the prepuce of male organ or labia majora of the vagina.



    Complications of  Syphilis




    Cardiovascular diseases such as aortic aneurysms.

    Mental problems.

    Blindness / visual impairement.

    Paralysis.

    Dementia.

    Deafness.

    Other neurological issues (neurosyphilis).

    Damage to the skin, bones and even  loss of life.

    VDRL test - Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test.

    RPR test - Rapid Plasma Reagin test.

    IgM test - Immunoglobulin M.

    IgG  test - Immunoglobulin G.

    DFA test - Direct Fluorescent Antibody  Test.

    TPPA - Treponema Pallidum Particle Agglutination assay.

    FTA-abs - Fluorescent Treponemal antibody absorbed test.

    EIA test - Enzyme Immuno Assay / Enzyme Immunoassay Antibody.

    USR test - Unheated Serum Reagin.

    TPHA - Treponema Pallidum Hemagglutination Assay

    NAA - Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests.

    TPCA test - Treponema Pallidum Chemiluminescent Assay.

    Diet regimen and Lifestyle Advice regarding Syphilis





    Stay away from sexual intercourse.

    Avoid salt  as much as possible, if you are a patient of syphilis.

    Always maintain sexual discipline to prevent syphilis and for this reason keep just a single sexual 
    partner.

    Medical check up should be maintained during medications of syphilis on a certain interval of days.

    Honey, sesame oil, rice, radish, bitter gourd, green gram, wheat and barley, nutritional supplements 

    like vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin K, zinc ETC. should be included in diet regimen.

    Sour buttermilk, jaggery, heavy meals etc. may raise the symptoms of syphilis, so, stay away from it.

    If you have more than one sexual partner then use Condom during sexual activities as a precautionary measure.

    External use of Ash / powder of the dry bark of the papal tree is helpful in the syphilitic lesions healing fast.

    Make a paste of pomegranate tree bark  and apply it on syphilitic ulcers to get advantages.

    Jatropha curcus seed oil exceptionally valuable in the treatment of Syphilis.

    Apply Aloe vera juice over syphilitic  ulcers may be helpful in alleviating swelling of sore or ulcer.

    Extracted juice of IndIan Coral tree leaves, juice of neem leaves, prickly poppy  and Tea tree oil  should be apply on Syphilitic ulcer or sore to remove the infection.
