    Pneumonia : Causes, Symptoms and Ayurvedic Treatment

    What Is Pneumonia?

    Pneumonia is a serious condition impacting on air sacs of lungs which is usually as a result of different kinds of  bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites like Streptococcus pneumoniae,  Pneumococcus, aemophilus influenzae, Pneumocystis jiroveci, respiratory syncytial virus,Coccidioidomycosis, blastomycosis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumonia etc. which has an incubation period of about a week. 

    It produces swelling in alveoli, and may be filled up with fluid and / or pus that ends in cough, discharging phlegm, fever, and respiration issues.
    Pneumonia can be found in ranges of mild to probably life-threatening. It can be dangerous in children, and old people due to poor immunity and  must be examined by means of a health professional immediatelly. In infantile cases, the disease may additionally cause delirum and convulsions.

    Causes and Risk factors of Pneumonia

    Introduction to air pollution and certain harmful chemicals which includes fumes, smokes of tobacco products, cigarettes etc.
    Defective or faulty life style.
    Poor disease fighting capability.
    Autoimmune disorders
    Malnutrition / poor nourishment.
    Inhaling  irritant dust particles or noxious gases like nitrogen dioxide, ammonia and many others.

    People who have chronic diseases like influenza, bronchiectasis, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), lung disease, kidney disease, heart disease, HIV infection, cystic fibrosis , diabetes mellitus, cancer and swallowing problems can easily get affected.
    Immoderate consumption of alcoholic beverages, liquor, and smoking.

    Signs and symptoms of pneumonia

    Fever, and chills/Shivering.
    Unnecessary  sweating.
    Nausea or vomiting.


    Loss of appetite.
    Chest pain during breathe or cough.
    Sometimes rapid breathing and heartbeat.
    Delirium.
    Shortness of breath and wheezing sound.
    Consistent coughs that produces green or yellowish sputum and coughing up mucus due to Immoderate creation of phlegm.
    Extreme weakness, fatigue, tiredness and muscle pain.
    Diminished thirst.
    Convulsions.
    Unconsciousness - diminished level of cognizance, perplexity, confusion, disorientation etc.


    Changes in skin color - dusky or blue-tinged skin, due to lack of oxygen in the blood. 

    Complications

    Pleurisy.
    Septicaemia.
    Renal diseases.
    Hepatic disorders.
    Lung abscess
    Acute respiratory distress syndrome
    Respiratory failure and death.

    Diagnosis of Pneumonia

    X-ray of the chest PA view.
    CT scan of the chest.
    Bronchoscopic test.
    Blood tests -  complete blood count.
    Gram stain sputum test.
    Sputum culture and sensitivity test.
    Pleural fluid culture and sensitivity test.
    Blood culture and sensitivity test.
    Pulse oximetry test.

    Diet, Life-style Adjustments and Other Regimen

    Mutton or chicken soups have an extraordinary incentive in pneumonia to getting some amount of necessary protein.
    Avoid refrigerated foods, refined foods, deep fried foods, white flour, condiments and pickles.
    Take sufficient rest and enough sleep.
    Intake sufficient fluids to stay hydrated.
    Drink only honey mixed luke-warm water in pneumonia.
    Make a strategic distance from carbonated, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages and stop smoking.

    Chyawanprash and Sitopaladi churna are well known remedies to treat a wide range of lung diseases encluding pneumonia.

    Rub Eucalyptus oil, Cypress essential oil,Tourist tree oil, Niaouli essential oil, Tea Tree Oil or  Turpentine oil over chest in diluted form with Coconut oil and wrap the area with a warm towel to get best consequences  in pneumonia.
    Do not use stimulant drinks like strong coffee or tea because it may deliver even worse results in pneumonic condition.
    As a home medication, start with fruit or vegetables juices just diluted with luke-warm water twice or thrice daily for about a week  and additionally consume sufficient quantity of raw fruit and vegetables as well.
    Stress can increase lung swelling, so avoid it.
    Don't move for outdoors.
    Light and easily digestible foods and warm soups have to be consumed.
    Stay far from cold climate  till the fever persists.
    Phlegm creating food articles such as rice,  lentils, sugar, ice cream, yoghurt, and curd  should be better avoided.
    Organic fruits and green vegetables should be followed.
    Stay away from alkali foods because they produce acidity.
    Rasa Sindur and Abhrak Bhasama has been used for years to deal with pneumonia, but it should be in taken under supervision of a health care provider.
    Some Asanas like Ardha Chakrasana,  Dhanura Asana etc. should be adopted after recommendation of Ayurvedic-physician.

    Note - It's far important that pneumonia should be dealt with instantly because it might prompt some critical health issues in ignored cases.
