    Fistula In Ano - Ayurvedic Treatment Doesn't Have To Be Hard.

    What is Fistula-in - ano?


    Anal fistula is an external opening apart from the natural


    anal opening and can be multiple openings outside and could 

    causes inflammation, pain, redness, and itching. Fistula-in-

    ano is also called Anal fistula and Bhagandra in Hindi term, 

    is one of the most common and frequent disease of the ano-

    rectal region. 

    It really is a little one or two sided canal / tract that evolves 

    between the skin around anus/ rectum as a result of an 

    infection or abscess in or around anus/rectum. Here one end 

    of tract starts up inside the anal passage and the other 

    opening is nearby the anus and causes leakage of feces from 

    the other opening and oozing of pus (muco-purulent

    Anal fistulas commonly arise due to an anal abscess.

    Lack of cleanliness in anal region  (not maintaining Anal hygiene properly)

    Spicy, oily and fast food habits.

    Ayurveda offers many effective treatments for this agonizing condition and there are different herbs which offer effective herbal treatment to the problem.



    Amla -Indian gooseberry - Emblica officianalis.

    Harad - Black/chebulic myrobalan -  Terminalia chebula.

    Bahera - Bastard myrobalan - Terminalia bellirica.

    Guggul - Commiphora mukul.

    Nirgundi - Vitex negundo.

    Papita - Papaya - Carica papaya.

    Grapefruit Seed - Forbidden fruit - Citrus paradisi.

    Lavanga - Cloves -  Syzygium Aromaticum.

    Ayurvedic strategy, way and approach in FISTULA-IN-ANO -

    It is very important that the constipation should be prevented at any cost. For this purpose, Constipation triggering foods like non-vegetarian foods such as egg, meat, fish etc, yogurt, pizza, burger, fermented food, greasy foods, cola -  drinks should be better avoided.

    Avoid  straining during defecation.

    Avoid long term and extended use of  anti-biotics and/or 

    anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

    The patients should be suggested to use organic / seasonal fruits and green leafy vegetables, Salads, soups, light diet, abundant dietary fibers. 

    Patient is also advised and encouraged to take lots of fluids.

    Apply Nirgundi oil twice locally before and after defecation for lubrication and to keep carefully the skin surface infection free.


    Sitz bath  -


    Sitz bath is an efficient and effective solution to get rid off 



    the pain, since, it offers a soothing experience, brings relief

    from pain and also helps in keeping the perianal region clean.

    Sitz bathe can be studied by boiling few Neem leaves in normal water for 10 - 15 minutes every day and stay away from any strong smelling soaps. 

    After taking a bath, wear a sanitary pad to prevent any leakage from the wound staining your clothes. 

    Always wear loose fit clothes.

    Intake mild laxative (Isabgula husk ) on  regular basis  to keep your bowels movement easily.
