    What is Anal Fissure?

    The anal fissure is defines as a tiny crack/ tear / break or ulcer in your skin in ano-rectal region which is seen as an agonic pain, sharp cutting sensation and bleeding during defecation. Anal fissure might involve in any age group, but it’s most frequent in adult person.
    Factors behind Anal Fissure

    Most common reason behind an anal fissure is chronic constipation because of any reason.

    Improper eating habits (intake of junk and non-vegetarian foods ) and sedentary routine and practices with less physical activity.

    Less usage of normal water and fibre in diet.

    Long term use of laxatives or purgatives (stool softener).

    Pregnancy or multiple pregnancies.

    Anal stretches and insertion of foreign objects in to the anus.

    Excessive tight and / or spastic rectal sphincter muscles.

    Increased smoking and intake of alcoholic beverages / liquor.

    Certain diseases like colitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, diarrhoea, anal malignancy, tuberculosis, obesity / weight problem, and sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, chancroid, HIV etc.

    Resisting the natural urge of bowel movement and urination.

    Decreased blood circulation to the ano-rectal region.

    Over straining during bowel motion / movement.

    Certain medications for a long time like Analgesic / pain killer, cortico-steroids etc.

    Trauma - during anal sex and childbirth.

    Signs and Symptoms of Anal Fissure

    Severe - Sharp agonizing rectal pain, tenderness, swelling, spasms in anus.

    Blood streaked feces.

    Pruritus ani (rectal - itching).

    Consume well balanced and fibre rich diet - Unpolished rice, flour with husk (wheat bran), warm milk, ladies-finger, vegetables with skin, fruits, fruit juice, leafy vegetables, soup, bael, ripe guava, apricot / khoobani, monakka/ raisins, ripe figs /anjeer, raddish leaf juice or curry are essential to get benefit in anal fissure.

    Avoid spicy, oily, fat rich heavy food, fast food, red meat, fisheries, cheese, white flour / maida and white rice.

    Avoid cycling or bike riding because these aggravate the rectal fissure.

    Wipe the area with very soft materials (moistened towel, cloth or cotton).

    Avoid over straining during defecation.

    Ensure food has high roughage and intake natural laxative like isabgol / psyllium husk.

    Avoid heavy lifting weights, and hard physical works.

    Drink enough liquids, water is the best one.

    Avoid  floor - sitting down.

    Losing weight for overweight / obese persons.

    Regular light exercises like morning walk, some light housework etc., yoga, specific asanas, pranayama, mudras etc. also performs a substantial role and really helps to increase blood circulation, which may assist in anal fissure curing.

    Apply petrolium jelly over teared ulcer of anus for better lubrication.
